AltarCare
A Strategy for Gospel-Centered
Orphan Care Ministry in the Church

How do churches go about doing the work of orphan care? One powerful answer is AltarCareThis book is intended to give church staff and lay leadership a track on which to run. It is useful for any stage of orphan care ministry a church may find itself embarking upon. From laying a strong Biblical foundation, to building upon it with practical and intentional resources, our prayer is that AltarCare will make much of the Father and His Church as we serve the least of these together.

“Pure and undefiled religion is this: to care for orphans and widows in their distress
and to keep oneself unstained from the world.”  (James 1:27)

It is our desire to inspire and equip the Body of Christ with the tools necessary to establish Gospel-centered Orphan Care Ministries. These ministries will not only strengthen those who are called to the journey of adoption and foster care, but will prepare and engage the whole Church to respond to this vital mission.

AltarCare will accomplish the following:

  • Assist the church in laying a biblically solid foundation for orphan care.
  • Move you toward the most efficient systems and process in doing the work of orphan care.
  • Identify, train, and implement the leaders God is calling to the ministry of orphan care.
  • Equip the church with the necessary resources and tools needed to be effective, as it relates to serving the least of these.

There are three components to establishing a Gospel-centered Orphan Care Ministry.

The story of God’s love and our adoption in Christ is unmistakably woven throughout Scripture.  And His intense love and passion for those who are helpless, weak, and without a voice, reaches its ultimate climax through the finished work of the Cross.

It is our highest aim to make much of the One who has rescued us and for the Body of Christ, the Church, to awaken and respond to His unfailing compassion for the least of these.  AltarCare will empower the Church to understand that the mandate to care for the orphan is rooted in the greatest command of all, to make disciples of all nations, both locally and globally.

Just as our adoption in Christ transforms the inner man first, we believe a Gospel-centered Orphan Care Ministry must initially be inward-focused. Altar84 will walk alongside the Church and assist them in determining what systems, structures, and resources they need to sacrificially love and CARE for the vulnerable children and families within their own community and church, as well as their adoptive and foster families. We will accomplish this through a step-by-step, holistic approach from identifying and equipping leaders to inspiring and executing the plan.

Another identifying mark of our adoption in Christ is the outward expression of the Gospel, demonstrated by our faith and love at work in the lives of others, especially within the family unit.  God’s design for the family has been evidenced from the very beginning, through the Trinity – the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.

We believe that it is at the heart of the Father that every child, no matter their ethnicity or history, deserves to know and experience, at best, the unconditional love and care of a physical family, and at the absolute least, that of the family of God.   Not only will AltarCare promote the family, but we will strive to WRAP around every family with purposeful actions that display the Gospel.
